Highlight and Contour

Contouring changes the entire look of your face. Facial features are viewed as a combination of light and shadows. By applying a dark tone, you create a false shadow, making it appear as if there is dimension. The opposite is true for lighter tones; they act as highlights and trick the eye into thinking they stand out. Contouring with makeup is usually applied on the temple area, nose, eyes, and chin areas. Select shades that are only about one skin tone away from your natural one.

Highlighting and contouring should be done before foundation, but can also be done afterward. Again you have to find what works better for you.

Cheekbones
Start by sucking in your cheeks, then apply a darker shade to the hollows with a blush or contour brush. Choose darker-toned makeup or powdered blush. In the areas you want to appear deeper, such as just under your cheekbone. Apply the darker make up slowly upwards and outwards. Start off lightly you can also add more, they other key is blend, blend, blend, so you do not see harsh lines.
Apply the highlighter to the top of the cheekbones, sweeping upward into a "C" shape around the eye to the top/middle of the brow area. If you don't like that look just apply to top of cheek bones, this can be done before or after also.

Nose
To make you nose appear slimmer, apply contouring shade on each side of the nose, then use your fingers or sponge to blend. Next apply the highlighter down the center of your nose, the tip will be brightest this way and will play down the size of the bridge

Double Chin
Sweep the darker powdered foundation along the edge of your jawline from one earlobe to the other, and beneath your chin. Do not use a color too dark, the color should be maybe a a shades or 2 darker than your skin tone, you can also use a not to shimmery bronze powder. Blend the line of demarcation at the jawline, so it blends into the foundation on your face. Add translucent powder over your face, jawline, and beneath your chin to set your makeup.

If you chin area is small apply highlighter to the center of the chin, right below you lip.

REMEMBER Light (Highlighter) bring features forward. Dark (Contour) recedes or pushes back features.
