Makeup Primers – Over 60 & Fab

Today’s installment of Over 60 & Fabulous, we are talking Makeup Primers. As we age our skin takes on a texture of its own and if we can make it look smooth and softer, why shouldn’t we. If you haven’t been using makeup primer, then you’re really missing out. If you wear a full face of make or just use a BB cream or tinted moisturizer, makeup primers are great when trying to combat shine, create a smooth surface to apply foundation. There is a lot of debate when it come to makeup primers, if they are really needed or not. Well I love them!

One of the  benefits of using a makeup primer is it seals your pores and will help even out skin tone and texture.
Makeup Primers make your skin appear much more youthful, they smooth out fine lines. This creates a more youthful appearance and reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkle

One of the main reasons for using a makeup  primer is because it helps your makeup stay on longer. Primers help decrease sweating through the pores, which makes your makeup stay in place longer. They also act as a natural shield for dust, water and debris that might make your makeup wear off. This is my favorite reason for using one.

Makeup primers come in all kinds of formulas and textures for all skin types. You need to find one that works for your skin, and as with all makeup products always test it to make sure you are not allergic to the ingredients. I am always saying not everything work for everyone.

Makeup Primers

Fusion of Color Cosmetics offered 2 different makeup primers one is Perfect Canvas Primer, which is more of a silicone based one. It is thicker and glides on smoothly over the skin.

Sheer Perfection Makeup Primers

Our newest member to the makeup primer family is Sheer Perfection Matte Primer, this one is loaded with good things for your skin and is a thinner formula than Perfect Canvas Primer.  Sheer Perfection like Perfect Canvas Primer can be worn under makeup or alone. Sheer Perfection can also be added to your foundation if you want to sheer it out, especially if you use a cream and it is too heavy for you.
As we age if a product helps us smooth our skin and helps soften those fine lines and wrinkles and possibly have ingredients that are good for our skin, I am all for it!

Exfoliation – Over 60 & Fabulous

We are going to talk about my favorite thing exfoliation! To maximize the benefits of your moisturizing products, it is important to exfoliate two to three times per week to remove dried out and dead skin cells from your face. Exfoliation may seem quite harsh and many mature women wonder if they shoud be doing this. When you exfoliate, you are assisting the natural process of shedding dead skin cells.

The process of removing dead skin cells rejuvenates the face and allows new, healthy skin cells to grow. The process of renewing skin cells slows down as you age, so in your 60s it becomes crucial to exfoliate in order to speed this process along.

Exfoliate Your Skin Regularly.

When skin is suffocated due to build up of dead skin cells, sebum and bacteria in the new skin cells below are starved of nutrients and vitamins. Exfoliating regularly will expose them to minerals they need to become healthy.
If we don’t exfoliate, anti aging skin care products are not able to penetrate the upper skin layers and so are not as efficient as they could be.

There are a lot of exfoliation products in the market. If you are new to this, start off with something gentle like a cream exfoliator with soluble beads in it.  You can also see your Esthetician and get a deeper exfoliation  of your skin.  But what ever you do, you must do some kind of exfoliation of the skin.

Over 60 and Fabulous!!

Since I am older than mummy dust, we are going to be doing posts about being Over 60 and fabulous.  We are going to start with skin care.  Most mature women do not look like their mothers or grandmothers did at their age. We take better care of ourselves and it shows!
Mature Women

Most women in general, but particularly over 60 are concerned about the onset of an ‘aging’ and want to have “younger-looking” skin to match. Since we are bombarded with having to be this young thing  and all the photoshopped pictures that are not real.  Us Over 60 ladies are never going to have that taut, flawless, pore less, even toned skin back. So we need to concentrate on having the best looking skin we can achieve.  Any routine you choose you HAVE to continue  doing it. It is not just  1 day I will do it then not do it again for a week, it has to be a daily routine.

Don’t Try to Look “Younger” it generally makes you older. Let’s try to look the best we can
we lived life and should be proud of that!

Stay out of the Sun
Sun damage is one of the leading causes of wrinkled, spotted skin. Try to limit your sun exposure, wear hats and use sunblock. A lot of sun damage doesn’t become fully apparent until later in life.  Using sunblock and avoiding excessive sun can also reduce your risk of skin cancer.

Wash Your Face Before Sleep
Dry skin is one of the most common challenges for women over 60, because people’s skin tends to become drier as we lose oil glands when we get older. Do not use soap, as soap will pull away the natural oils from your skin.  Use a cream cleanser, oil cleanser, nothing to harsh. Toner after washing and then use a serum and moisturizer to but back moisture in the skin. Exfoliation helps our skin also, skin we do not shed dead skin as fast as out younger counterparts. Again with exfoliation, nothing harsh. Getting facials from a professional helps also.

Mature Women

When you are over 60, you must, must moisturize daily, always use  moisturizer, serum whatever works for you and above all sunblock.

Stop Smoking, aside from all the other health benefits of giving up smoking, if you are a smoker, you probably have more wrinkles than other people your same age who do not smoke.

There are so many products in the market, you need to find what works for you be it high end, natural oils, drug store brands, indie brands. Yes we carry skin care that we love and use!!

Artis Brushes

We are going to review the Artis Brushes, I was talking with some makeup artists that use Artis Brushes  and a lot like them. I have seen Artis Brushes and thought they were kind of nice and different. They looked sort of hard to use. So after talking to some makeup artists that use them I thought I would give it a try.  Well let me tell you they are wonderful! The Artis Brushes do have a bit of a learning curve to them. My favorite one is the Oval 6, if you want a smooth foundation application this is the brush for you. I have tried the Oval 6 with loose minerals, cream and liquid foundations and work beautifully with all of them.  I also have the Linear 1 and the Oval 3, The Oval 3 I use for shadow and you only need  a little shadow for this brush to give you a smooth finish basically in one swipe.  I am still trying to learn the Linear 1 for lining, when I get it to work it does give a perfect line again in one swipe. I can only get the line to go from the middle of my eye to the outer edge, still cannot master the inner most of the eye.  You do have to use their cleaner and brush cleaning pad for these.

artis brushesI bought the set from QVC, it was a good deal if you check out the prices on other sites. I does come with the cleaner and cleaning pad which was a plus. Why is it different: Artis brushes are made with CosmeFibre, a revolutionary engineered fiber made for applying cosmetic and makeup products. Designed to make it easier to apply makeup, the brushes have a familiar ergonomic configuration.

How do I use it: The Linear 1 has a very narrow (about 1mm to 2mm) row of fibers to help concentrate product application in a line, such as along the lash line. This brush can apply a precise line of product along the upper lash line or tucked under the lower lash line. It can also be used to fill in and define the brows and can simulate brow hair lines; or can be used to apply a defined line along the lip or any other part of the face. The Linear 1 brush is very helpful for special effects makeup to create crisp lines and linear shapes.

The Oval 3 assists in shading and blending the products applied to the outside and inside corners of the eye lid and smaller areas of the eyelid. This brush is also useful for applying foundation or concealer to the inside corner area of the eye or on the side of nose by the nostrils.

The Oval 6 is great for applying product to the entire eye lid, foundation to the face, or contouring the cheekbone area. This brush applies blush beautifully to the apple of the cheek and blends it so that the application looks natural.

If you are looking for a great flawless foundation application you have to try at least the Oval 6.

Micellar Water

Micellar Water

Make-up artists and models have used Micellar Water for decades. Now the secret’s out and Micellar Water is incredibly popular with students, moms, adventurers and entrepreneurs– anyone who needs a little short cut in their skin care routine or doesn’t have water handy when they need it

What is Micellar Water?
Micellar Water contains micelles. These little ball shaped molecules have lipophilic ends that cling to dirt and oil and hydrophilic ends that cling to water.

How does it work?
When a cotton pad is dampened with Micellar Water, the water loving ends cling to the cotton and the oil and dirt loving ends stick out from the pad waiting to cling to dirt and oil. When you wipe the Micellar Water dampened cotton pad across your face, the dirt and oil loving ends do their job by removing dirt and oil from your face leaving you with clean, fresh skin.

Part of Micellar Water’s effectiveness is in the application. Pour the Micellar Water on a cotton pad. This takes advantage of Cotton’s hydrophilic properties. The hydrophilic heads are attracted to the cotton, leaving the hydrophobic tails sticking up to trap oil, and dirt, including makeup, mascara and sebum. When applied to skin Micellar Water and cotton pads cleanse the skin by acting like a magnet, attracting and entrapping impurities without harsh rubbing or scraping.

Micellar Water can be used in place of your cleanser and toner,  we think a spritz or a cotton pad dampened with our Classic Toner or Prestige Toner can be a great addition, especially on hot, humid days when you’re feeling sticky. We like it for touching up mascara misses and for cleaning your face after being out shopping, after a run or any outdoor activity,  anywhere you want to get your face clean when there’s no water around. Fusion of Color also recommends get a smaller bottle and keep it in your desk at work or in your purse, in case you decide to go out after work.

Micellar Water’s ingredients are quite simple: Deionized Water, Witch Hazel, Water, Alcohol, Glycerin, Gluconolactone (and) Sodium Benzoate, Capric/Caprylic Triglycerides [MCT Oil], Lecithin, Decyl Glucoside. That’s it! No harsh chemicals to irritate sensitive skin.
